Pombo’s in their pocket… Isn’t it time we get him out?

Pombo’s in their pocket… Isn’t it time we get him out?

Help out. We don’t have the deep pockets of the oil, gas and development interests that fund the campaigns of Rep. Pombo (R-CA). Please help place this television ad in Pombo's district and let his constituents know who he's really representing!

Learn more. Among other things, Rep. Pombo (R-CA) is the architect of the recently passed "Wildlife Extintion Bill" that would gut the Endangered Species Act. Visit our website to learn more about Rep. Pombo’s dirty deeds.
Pass it on. Forward this message to at least five friends and help us spread the word.

“Mr. Pombo's only idea, and it is a terrible one, is to treat this nation the way he treats his Congressional district, as if it were ripe for exploitation.”
New York Times(10/30/05)

Over the last several weeks, Representative Richard Pombo (R-CA) has used his influence as head of the powerful House Resources Committee to wage a one-man war on wildlife. Now we’re fighting back and we need your help.

Today in Sacramento, California, I’m announcing a new campaign by the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund to hold Representative Pombo accountable for his assault on America’s special plants, animals and wild places.

Representative Pombo’s constituents deserve to know who he’s really representing in Washington. That’s why we’re launching a new web site, PomboInTheirPocket.org, and running television and web banner ads to spotlight Pombo’s ties to special interests and his terrible record on important wildlife issues.

We need your help to place our ads online and on the air. Please make a donation online now.

Make no mistake -- Richard Pombo is in the pocket of wealthy developers and oil industry lobbyists. Developers and real estate interests have given Pombo more than $199,000 in campaign contributions. With more than $85,000 in his last campaign, Pombo is also one of Congress’ biggest recipients of campaign cash from the oil and gas industry. He's even been called one of "the 13 most corrupt members of Congress" by the non-partisan Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.

(1)
All this campaign cash goes a long way toward explaining Pombo’s motives for unleashing what the New York Times has called a “steady stream of environmentally destructive legislation.”

(2)
Last month, he steamrolled a "Wildlife Extinction Bill" through the House of Representatives, placing our wolves, sea otters, and other treasured wildlife at risk of extinction. Pombo has introduced legislation to allow drilling off our coastlines. He is leading the charge to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling while lifting environmental safeguards. He has supported efforts to allow more toxic mercury pollution in our air. And he even proposed selling off 15 of our national parks!

Pombo has abused his power for too long. It’s time to let his constituents know what he’s doing in Washington in their names. Please help us air these ads and bring the truth to light.

Congressman Pombo may represent the interests of his biggest donors, but he doesn’t represent the interests of his constituents. According to a recent poll, the majority of Rep. Pombo’s constituents support the Endangered Species Act -- the same law Pombo is trying to gut. And, while his constituents are paying record prices at the pump, Pombo voted against legislation to increase fuel efficiency for automobiles and has even proposed freezing the fees that oil companies pay to operate on public lands.

Spreading the word about Pombo’s record isn’t cheap. We need $100,000 to support this campaign, so please make a donation online now.

With your help, we can let Representative Pombo and his benefactors know that our country’s rich natural heritage isn’t for sale. America’s wildlife—and Rep. Pombo’s constituents—deserve better.

Sincerely,

Rodger SchlickeisenPresidentDefenders of Wildlife Action Fund
P.S. We need your help to spread the word about Representative Pombo’s assault on our natural heritage. Please send this message to at least five friends, family members and neighbors.

No get out of jail free card, Impeach Bush now!

Nobody is Above the Law
Filed under: General Articles — Norm @ 3:56 pm

For five years, the Bush White House has been committing crime after crime, with seeming impunity. They thought they were above the law, but they forgot one thing. This is a democracy, and in a democracy, the law applies to everybody, even the White House.

If the Congress were to establish serious and high-level investigations of the entire Plame affair, or if the House were to pass an impeachment resolution -- thus putting Administration officials under oath during depositions -- that would be the beginning of the end of Bush&Co. power. But that's not about to happen right now in a GOP-ruled Congress, and Bush/Rove/Cheney, no matter how suspect and politically-damaged, still rule from the White House. That's important to keep in mind in the next weeks and months. http://www.bushwatch.com/weiner.htm

Libby's Indictment:

A Window Into the White House Cesspool
Even if Rove and Cheney and Bush escape indictment, their credibility is in tatters, their power diminished, their focus scattered. But, and this is a very big but, Bush&Co. still hold the reins of power and can do, and are prepared to do, a great deal of damage in their weakened, cornered state.

Flipping & Flopping in the White House
By Bernard Weiner

Maybe Bush is hoping that by dumping Rove and Libby -- and even Cheney if it comes to that (resigning for "health reasons," of course ) -- he'll be able to stanch the bleeding just below him: a kind of political tourniquet. Throwing Haldeman and Ehrlichman over the side didn't work for Nixon, but it did buy him a bit of time until the inevitable reckoning. Probably wouldn't work for Bush either -- without Rove, he's flailing -- but what other options does he have for ultimate distraction other than bombing or invading another country? Rice has offerred the scenario and the likely country: Syria. Don't want to "weaken" a President during "wartime" -- that would be the operative spin. http://www.bushwatch.com/weiner.htm
